ANTIQUE Rare African Ethiopian Oromo shield - Ethiopia

Oromo people, Ethiopia - dating from the late 19th century. Made of very heavy animal skin, shaped and finished by hand.A round shield with a central protrusion. 

A sequence of concentric circles decorates the surface, on which two copper four-pointed star emblems are attached.

The rear handle is held in place by riveted, hand-finished bronze sections.

Diameter 27 cm.

This Oromo shield dates from the end of the 19th century and was purchased in my private collection in 2022, with a certificate of authenticity.
