Ethiopia wooden begin 18th century Icon altar from the orthodox coptic Church in Axum.
Measures approximately 35 cm height and 10 cm wide.
This altar is more then 200 years old and is made from one piece of wood.
This item was collected end 19th century and comes from begin 19th century and purchased in my private collection in 2008, with a certificate of authenticity.
Central in every church building of any traditional Christian church is
the altar, the concrete focus of the celebration, especially of the Eucharistic liturgy.
Unique as it may be, the forms of the altar, its number, size, understanding etc. are varied, and it is important to account for these differences insofar as that can be done.
