Ancient mask, whose simplicity of form is matched only by its beauty and power.
The Nyanga are a small ethnic group living in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo, in a forest region of Maniema. They have a social and cultural organisation close to that of the Kumu, hence the natural influence and resemblance on several points, as well as certain forest peoples. This mask was worn during initiations that could last several days.
