This size are 29 cm high and 24 in diameter.

This Dogon storage vessel dates from the early 20th century (circa 1930-1960) and comes with a certificate of authenticity

Large, handmade storage vessel made from a natural calabash, reinforced with a stitched bark collar and fine plant fiber weaves. These vessels were traditionally used by the Dogon people of Mali for storing grain, milk, or water in everyday life.

This storage vessel exhibits a deep natural patina from authentic domestic use, with surface wear, oxidized stitching, and a warm  honey-orange color. Their smooth, rounded organic shape and meticulous craftsmanship give this storage vessel a sculptural appearance that transcends their utilitarian origins.

Such vessels symbolized fertility, nourishment, and domestic abundance within West African culture, making them important expressions of both utility and beauty. These old Dogon storage vessels are very rare due to age, often break and almost never come up for sale.
