Important African Lunda mask from the border region between Zambia, Democratic Republic of Congo and Angola. The masks or "makishi" which is the generic term designating the masks among the Chokwe peoples and related in this region, come out for various rituals and festivities. This very distinctive one is a "Mwana Pwevo" female mask. It consists of a wooden face for the face and a solid structure for the headdress.

This mask was worn accompanied by a full braided costume dressing the dancer. He intervened in the rites of circumcision. mask comes from the Chokwe people. Mwana Pwo also dances at the induction of a new chief, at funerals and fertility rituals, and during public entertainment. During the performance, Mwana Pwo is always accompanied by male character masks such as Cihongo or Cikunza. Mwana Pwo's dancer attracts a very large audience, especially women.
