This painting comes with a certificate of authenticity.

Joshua Mensah is a self-taught artist and first-generation Ghanaian American based in Oakland, California. Trained as an engineer, he spent years making art on nights and weekends before leaving tech to devote himself to painting full time.

His work is about Black people and the Black experience including figures, ancestry, and intimacy. He doesn't believe the body and the self are separate things. The body is history, an unbroken line carrying every ancestor and connection that made you.

He makes work for Black people and for people who love them. His love for Black people comes through in everything he makes.
